House Fire In Los Angeles

Los Angeles Herald 8th November 1905

Lamp Explodes; House Burns.

Fire originating from the explosion of a lamp was discovered in the residence of H.J. Emptage at 427, South Savannah street shortly before 8.30 o’ clock last night.

The house which is a one-story frame structure was damaged to the extent of 1,000 dollars and the furniture to 600 dollars, all of which is covered by insurance.

None of the occupants was injured.

Note:

Henry Joseph Emptage, a tailor and husband of Emma W.F. Schultz, and son of Henry John Emptage and Susan Elizabeth Austin, emigrated from London to the United States around 1870.

Finally settling in Los Angeles, he and Emma had 4 children, Henry Charles, Steven Alfred, Isabel Emma and Alma Margaret.

Henry died on the 17th February 1919 age 64.
